..why Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving in October?
According to WikiAnswers:
Unlike the American Thanksgiving which is associated with the early American colonists, the Canadian Thanksgiving is based on the European harvest festival. The harvest comes earlier in Canada because of its northern locale and thus it is celebrated in October.

This is the first clear explanation I have heard for celebrating in October. Being an American living in Cananda for 10 years, it's about time I knew why!
